Abstract
My work explores the relationship of the concept of home with ancestral identity as climate fueled migration becomes the norm. Growing up at the start of the hip hop generation in 80’s and 90’s New York, with roots in Bengal, my aesthetic is distilled from both modern and ancient symbolism and stories. I explore materials and mediums in a multidisciplinary practice to generate hope and possibilities in the midst of the control hegemonic powers and extractive industries attempt to have upon our everyday lives. More than anything, I see creative expression as a countering force for freedom and liberation.

Figure 1: “Sonic Ocean,” Copic markers on paper
This piece was inspired by Michaela Harrison's Whale Whispering project after interviewing her for the 2021 Imagining America National Gathering. The piece intends to visualize the songs of the whales underwater—the dancing of the lines symbolizing the sonic echoes reverberating across the seas, connecting the whales to each other and, as Michaela reminds us, also to us, if we listen.
